Electrician Diesel Engine

Starting at $34.46-41.02/hr with annual pay of $71,670 - 85,321 with 3-5 years seniority 

 

This is a full-time position (40 hrs/wk) and is subject to seniority and governed by union agreement. Assigned shift may be one of three 8-hour shifts. Mechanical shops operate 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. Travel is minimal. Receive on-the-job paid training.

Responsibilities

  • Test, inspect, and repair electrical components of locomotive systems and shop machinery
  • Maintain and repair locomotive alternators, generators, motors, AC/DC power control systems, electrical cabinets, lighting, batteries, and wiring
  • Inspect, adjust, troubleshoot, and repair electrical components of shop equipment (drop tables, welding, mechanical and electromagnetic equipment) and perform preventative maintenance to ensure proper function
  • Working conditions can include diverse and extreme weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet), walking and performing work on uneven surfaces, working on or around loud noises, fumes, and heavy/moving machinery 

Basic Qualifications

  • 4 years of practical experience in electrical workpreferred (can be a combination of training plus work experience)
  • Able to work in the US without company sponsorship now AND in the future 
  • At least 18 years of age or will be by the anticipated start date listed above 
  • Able to report for duty at the designated work location 
  • Able to work safely in the above working conditions 
  • Able toworkthe above shift/hours 
  • Abilityto read, write and communicate (speak, hear, and understand) in English 
  • Abilityto lift and carry up to 50lbs.without assistance
  • Abilityto visually distinguish colors—red, blue, green, yellow, and lunar (clear light) 
  • Ability to discriminate and differentiate between verbal and non-verbal sounds (signals, alarms, etc.) in the work environment 
  • Ability to use handsanduse hand toolsto perform activities involving holding, grasping, turning, and pulling 
  • Ability toclimb ladders; get on/off equipment 
  • Ability tobend, walk,stand, andsitoccasionally with breaks 
  • Abilitytooccasionallywork at various heights above the ground, including working on top of a locomotive
  • Union membership is with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and union dues are required per union agreement.
